About the Show:

Terrence Payne's artwork primarily explores the concept of community and how people's interactions and connections shape their own identities and influence the behavior of those around them. He utilizes patterns, typography, colors, symbols, costumes, figures, and animals to create representative portraits of different individuals. When these portraits are grouped together, they depict various segments of communities and their interrelationships. Terrence's illustrative style aims to engage a broad audience by using a visually accessible language that he has developed over his career. The empathetic and often humorous allegories in Terrence's creations draw from his own experiences and behavior, with the intention of prompting self-reflection in his audience.

Terrence Payne's latest exhibition, titled "Snug," delves into the concept of safety and security in an increasingly uncertain world. Through large-scale oil pastel drawings and limited edition screen prints, Terrence illustrates how escalating anxieties may impact the world as we strive to address our need for security. The archetypal figures in his artwork don knit costumes as a protective layer, symbolizing the unresolved daily traumas that weigh on our collective consciousness.
